Issue 13 - Haircuts and daft habits...
Scrambles the Cairn Terrier writes for All Things Local

Life through the eyes of Scrambles, a Belper-based Cairn Terrier. Scrambles is the latest (and most unusual) columnist in All Things Local!

As you all know my Mum has got a really daft habit, well she did when I first went to live with her, of throwing various items such as balls and sticks into the middle of fields. I didn’t want her to lose these items so I would happily go after them and show her where they had landed.

She seemed to expect me to do something with these things because she kept telling me to fetch or bring it to her. Now I’m sorry but if somebody is silly enough to keep chucking things then they really should be prepared to go and get it themselves, I am certainly not going to do her fetching and carrying for her.

Anyway she kept this up for a few weeks and then thankfully she packed it in. I was really getting worn out chasing after her discarded belongings and this stupid habit was totally ruining a perfectly good walk.

Then along came my little sister Chaos.

I thought I had instructed Chaos reasonably well, however I clearly forgot to tell her about this peculiar habit of our Mum’s. Unfortunately Chaos found a ball when we were walking one morning and took it to our Mum who instantly picked it up and threw it away, so she obviously didn’t want it. Before I could tell Chaos if Mum threw it let her get it, Chaos had roared after it, picked it up and charged back with it and dropped it at Mum’s feet.

I was distraught, I tried to head butt her, tried to steer her off course, tried to chase her away from Mum, anything to stop her but no, it was all to no avail and we now spend half our walking time chasing this little green ball – well Chaos does; sorry but it is well below my level of dignity, I try to distance myself from the pair of them, honestly what a way to carry on.

It does seem to make them both happy so I suppose I shall just have to let them get on with it.

Also we have both had a haircut and I must say I do think we look particularly cute. Our Mum keeps trying to get a new photograph of both of us but trying to get Chaos to sit still for more than three seconds is a bit difficult so if there’s a new photo on this page she managed it and if not, she didn’t!

Well think that’s it for this time, enjoy all the lovely weather.
