Leigh Holbrook - Footballer from Kilburn called up for England

Leigh Holbrook (pictured) has just won his first cap for England in the KL World 5’s Futsal Championships held in Malaysia between 29 January and 3 February.

England Futsal Head Coach, Graeme Dell selected Leigh to be a part of his 12 man squad travelling to Kuala Lumpur. The England Squad has been drawn in Pool A which includes a tough first game against the South American expertise of Argentina.

Leigh, originally from Kilburn and now living at Openwoodgate comments: “This is an important tournament for England ahead of the Futsal World Cup qualifiers in Hungary in February and I’m delighted to be given my first cap at this level”.

Futsal is the FIFA and UEFA recognised version of small-sided football. Its popularity throughout the world is evident and nations like Brazil, Spain and Italy all have full time national teams. It is said that Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Figo and Ronaldhinho all developed their initial skills as a result of playing Futsal.

Steve Knighton - A local Golfer seeking local companies to help with sponsorship.
Milford business woman, Megan Kristian is an extremely proud mother. Megan who co-owns Megan Kristian Furniture in Belper with husband Clive Holland has spoken to All Things Local about her high hopes for golfing son, Steve Knighton (pictured).

Steve (24) has just turned professional after enjoying considerable success representing Derbyshire at first team level and playing in some of the greatest amateur events on the countries best golf courses. Last October, Steve played in the Derbyshire Matchplay at Kedleston Park Golf Club and went on to win the title.

Steve’s professional career began in January 2008 and he has just flown out to Spain to compete in the Hi-5 professional tour. This consists of five events to be played at five different venues.

When the winter events are over Steve will be playing regularly on the Europro Tour.

Steve is confident about his future in golf and comments: “With my determination and talent, I know I will succeed”.
