Issue 9 - Underage drinking...
John Midgley - Police Community Support Officer

Your regular column about combating crime in the neighbourhood written by John Midgley (pictured) and Paula Johnson.

Hi everyone.

Your Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) is working with the local community to resolve issues in your area. We are continuing to develop our contacts within the community and to help build on our understanding of local problems.

We also continue to monitor reports of nuisance behaviour in Duffield, paying particular attention to underage drinking. We have already seized alcohol from Snake Lane Park and we will continue to patrol the recreational grounds to eradicate further concern, and if anyone is found to be drinking underage and causing a disturbance, they will be dealt with in the appropriate manner. Another problem on the rise is motorbikes (dirt bikes and scooters) in the Milford and Makeney area which are becoming a nuisance, revving engines and racing up and down roads - some without helmets on.

Kilburn and surrounding areas also are experiencing this problem with motorbikes and cars congregating on car parks in Kilburn and surrounding areas being a nuisance. This is of concern to the local Safer Neighbourhood Team. We are monitoring the situation and will do our utmost to tackle the situation. Anything you see relating to this in any area or any further incidents don’t hesitate to ring on 0845 123 3333. Of particular concern are Woodhouse Road, Dale Park Avenue and Chapel Street in Kilburn and through Denby Village which we have been made aware of.

Action is being taken over this matter by the use of Speed Watch campaign. Speed Watch is aimed to tackle dangerous driving with the help of volunteer members of the community. The public will not be able to stop drivers, but those caught breaking the speed limit will be sent warning letters by the police. Your local PCSO would accompany the volunteers whilst out and about in the areas affected. We still need volunteers for Duffield, Milford, Kilburn and Denby, so if anyone is interested please get in contact with either of us on 0845 123 33 33.

Thanks and take care.

What you've been saying about All Things Local...

“ I decided to use All Things Local for my first advert as I liked the magazines concept. I think we all like to use local people for various services if we can. I found Karyn to be friendly, knowledgable and very helpful. The advert designs are great and any alterations are done with great speed. I was delighted with the response to the advert from the start and even though I now have a website which attracts business from far and wide, will continue to keep things local with year round advertising in Karyn's fine publications.“
