Hello readers

It seems that summer is just around the corner and we’re sure that everyone in the local community is looking forward to enjoying the good weather and relaxing in the sunshine. There are some simple safety tips to remember at this time of year, to make sure that you enjoy a safe and secure summer.

One of the main things to keep in mind is to secure your doors and windows before you go out or if you’re in the garden. The opportunist thief can use an open window or unlocked door to quickly gain entry to your home; so remember to lock your doors and windows, just to be on the safe side.

Your garden shed could also be a target for the potential thief. Invest in a good quality lock for the door and think about installing an alarm if you keep valuable items in your shed. Also remember to protect the items in your car and don’t leave anything on display.

Secure all your items in the boot or, if possible, leave expensive objects at home. Don’t hide anything in your glove compartment; if a thief does get into your car, this will be the first place they look.

Always take a few seconds to check your car before you leave it. Are the windows and sunroof secured? Can anything of valuable be seen through the windows?

We hope that all local residents have a safe and happy summer!

If you would like more information on staying safe this summer, please contact your local Safer Neighbourhood Team on 0345 123 33 33, or log on to www.derbyshire.police.uk for more information on neighbourhood policing.

What you've been saying about All Things Local...

“ I thought I would just take a moment to let you know what kind of response I have received from advertising in All Things Local magazine. I can certainly say that the response has been even better than I expected and certainly has more than paid for the ads already and, as many of the clients have become regulars, I expect that to continue. It's also interesting to see how pleased existing clients are to see the ads.“

Peter Waugh (Amber Feet)
